Short Drama's: About A Girl

About A girl seems to have stuck in my mind since viewing it for the first time. All elements of the film seemed flawless to me, with an outstanding performance from the young, lead actress. The heavily stereotyped story is abruptly interrupted at the end when the young girl dumps a babies body into a canal after seeming so innocent and victimised.
The mies-en-scene within the piece is all heavily stylised to add more detail into the kind of life we see this young girl living. Graffiti is scattered in what appears to be a low-class living area where she walks down a canal explaining her life involving her family as we see jumps in time frames to illustrate the words she speaks. She is a young individual, who has goals and dreams to escape from the world she lives in, to be rich and successful unlike her parents who both don't care for more than a pack of fags or having a pint down at the pub. The director successfully portrays a misleading stereotype, and to some may solidify the stereotype with the film ending in the way it does.
